Gregory Rodrigues showcases knockout power at UFC Austin

Gregory Rodrigues has a wealth of grappling experience on his resume but he also possesses some serious power in his hands.

The Brazilian put his knockout power on display last Saturday at UFC Austin when he unleashed a barrage of shots to finally put Julian Marquez away in a jaw-dropping performance on the main card. The stoppage came at 3:18 in the opening round after Rodrigues landed a straight right hand that caused Marquez to crumble to the mat, prompting the referee to call off the fight.

“Tonight I just showed who I am,” Rodrigues said. “Nobody is going to stop me. I’m unstoppable. I want to show I’m a complete fighter. I can fight anyone."

“Julian is an amazing guy. I think the UFC did their job. I’m just going to wait for what they offer me and I’m going to take the challenge.”

Rodrigues demonstrated his accuracy and power with his punches right from the start, slipping through Marquez's defense and consistently landing powerful shots. Every time Marquez tried to counter, Rodrigues made him pay.

When one of Rodrigues' hooks snapped Marquez's head back, he went for the kill by unleashing a series of huge shots, targeting the body and finishing with an uppercut.

To his credit, Marquez refused to back down and kept swinging wild punches in an attempt to keep Rodrigues at bay, but his efforts proved futile in the end.

Rodrigues continued to press the attack, chasing Marquez across the octagon until he landed a devastating punch down the middle that crashed into Marquez's chin, sending him down to the canvas for the final time.

Now with a 3-1 record in the UFC, Rodrigues has proven to be an exciting addition to the middleweight division. He bounced back from a close split decision loss in his previous fight by delivering an impressive first-round knockout, keeping the judges out of the equation.
