This Saturday, May 7, UFC 274 is scheduled to take place. It features Brazilian fighter Charles Oliveira as the main attraction, but a day before the event, it will not happen as expected.
It turns out that surprisingly, Charles Oliveira was stripped of the lightweight title prior to UFC 274 and will not defend it against Justin Gaethje because he couldn't make the 155-pound weight limit. At the weigh-in, the fighter couldn't reach the required weight.
Furthermore, Oliveira had two opportunities to make weight but couldn't. Thus, it is confirmed that he will vacate the UFC belt before UFC 274, which will take place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Charles Oliveira is no longer the champion before UFC 274
Nevertheless, the fighter known as 'Do Bronx' will still fight, but if he defeats Gaethje, he will not have the belt with him again.
The South American fighter had one hour to make the exact weight according to Mixed Martial Arts authorities. He worked hard during that 60-minute period, but he didn't achieve the goal.
Justin Gaethje will be giving his all against Charles Oliveira. If he defeats his opponent, he will win the lightweight belt since he complied with the requirement of reaching 155 pounds before UFC 274. If he loses, the title will be vacant.
On the other hand, another exciting fight on the main card is the one featuring the favorite Rose Namajunas, who will defend her strawweight title against Carla Esparza.
