Royal Rumble 2016 Kickoff: Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match for Two Spots in the Royal Rumble
This Sunday, January 24, the Royal Rumble 2016 will take place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. On this occasion, there will be much more at stake than usual, as for the second time in history, the 30-man battle royal will have the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line.
A few minutes ago, it was announced through WWE.com that the kickoff of the event, which marks the beginning of the road to WrestleMania, will be a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match where the two members of the winning team will earn a spot in the main event, putting them one step closer to becoming WWE champions.
The four teams involved are The Dudley Boyz, The Ascension, Mark Henry & Jack Swagger, and Darren Young & Damien Sandow. With this last combination, it seems clear what had been shown on screens for months but had not been officially announced, the breakup of The Prime Time Players.
It is interesting to find Mark Henry and The Ascension in this match, as on the edition of Monday Night Raw on January 18, commentator Michael Cole mentioned that they, along with the other 5 men in the ring at that time, were part of the battle royal.
With that, the Royal Rumble 2016 card has six confirmed matches:
- 30-man Royal Rumble Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
- Last Man Standing Match for the Intercontinental Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Kevin Owens
- United States Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Kalisto
- Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) (with Ric Flair) vs. Becky Lynch
- WWE Tag Team Championship: The New Day (c) vs. The Usos
- Kickoff - Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match for two spots in the Royal Rumble: Darren Young & Damien Sandow vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Ascension vs. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger
What do you think? Which team will earn two spots in the Royal Rumble?
