Moises Fuentes is back

What Moises Fuentes did on the night of December 5 in the ring during his fight against Francisco "Chihuas" Rodriguez was to show that he is back.

On May 10, 2014, Moises suffered a painful knockout defeat against Donnie Nietes, which made him consider retirement. However, after some time away from the ring and the limelight, he decided to continue fighting and slowly regained his confidence and position in boxing.

He faced "Chihuas", who also fell to Donnie Nietes this year and despite moving up from strawweight to light flyweight, has not been able to overcome the difficulties of making weight in his division.

For the fight against Moises, Francisco couldn't make weight on the first attempt, which is a serious problem for a boxer and especially for a young one, a double world champion with a great future ahead of him.

Inside the ring, "Chihuas" forgot the speed that characterizes him, those thousand punches per fight (at least) that he knows how to throw, were not present. His movement around the ring was poor, giving Moises the opportunity to fight him up close, a distance that favors Fuentes. However, his round finishes were explosive and dynamic, and on more than one occasion he made Moises's life difficult. In the first round, "Chihuas" scared Moi by putting him against the ropes and staggering him, but he couldn't do it again after that.

For Moi, the experience was different as he was able to show why he has been a world champion. He looked strong and determined, with a punch not as fast as Rodriguez's, but very consistent. He closed the exits for "Chihuas" by fighting him up close and never stopped following him. If anything, he may have failed by giving Rodriguez the opportunity to corner him against the ropes, but when Fuentes returned the favor to Rodriguez, he benefited greatly from the close-quarters combat.

Even though "Chihuas" had dangerous round finishes, Moi didn't lose his head or fall into desperation, so he controlled the fight with an upward performance.

In the end, the scorecards reflected Fuentes' good performance, as he won by split decision.
