Vince Russo talks about the lost art of vignettes: NXT wrestlers come out and that's it, unless you are a hardcore fan you won't know who they are

Although in the English language, the French word vignette has connotations of photography and graphic design, in Spanish, we identify viñeta with sequential art, that is, comic strips. In American professional wrestling, vignette was adopted to refer to videos with which wrestlers are introduced. These wrestling vignettes or comic strips manage to give importance to new characters, getting them into the subconscious of fans even before they debut in the ring or reappear with a new image (like the case of Ricky Steamboat in the 80s, who appeared training martial arts in the far east and facing a crowd of ninjas) or also to accentuate the character's abilities, like Mr. Perfect's classic "Perfect Pass" (my favorite vignette):

Vince Russo spoke about vignettes in the latest edition of his Nuclear Heat podcast, on Wrestling Inc.:

"The art of vignettes is something that has been lost. These are aimed at people who don't watch the show and who are not purists of wrestling. They are looking for comedy, suspense, and emotions."

"NXT wrestlers come to the main roster without any fanfare. All the girls, Owens, all the people who have recently arrived come without fanfare. They just show up, and that's it. Unless you are a die-hard fan who watches NXT, you won't have any idea who they are."

"Before, we used weeks and weeks to build wrestlers, like in the case of Val Venis, who appeared in different locations using different verbiage.
