Jon Jones announced his resignation from the UFC heavyweight title amidst extreme tension with UFC President Dana White
Jon Jones announced this Sunday his resignation from the UFC heavyweight title amidst extreme tension with UFC President, Dana White.
White and Jones have disagreements over financial matters.
White has argued that Jones' history of problems outside the octagon has harmed his career.
Upon announcing his resignation from the 205-pound title, Jones said he will take a break but not before affirming that White lies to the public and refuses to pay him what he's truly worth.
He also suggested that Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz should fight for the vacant belt.
"Reyes vs. Jan for the UFC heavyweight championship. From now on, I have nothing to gain by fighting either of them. Let me know if you want to set a date in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully, you'll be willing to pay by then," he stated.
The UFC has not commented on Jones' remarks and his intention to resign from the belt.
For Jones, the issue seems to come down to money and respect. He has already twice requested to be released from his contract if he can't receive more payment.
"I get hurt every time I go out and take a shot to the head, and I don't feel like my pay is worth it," he said. EFE
