Evening of high and lowlights in the function shared by Anabel "Wasp" Ortiz and Jorge "Maromerito" Páez.

While the strawweight champion of the World Boxing Association showcased her excellent boxing skills, the "Maromerito" did not give his best performance and was outshined by a much younger opponent (19 years old). Despite his experience and considering that he should be in the maturity of his career, the young Chema Ocampo showed more resources and heart in the battle.

Let's start with the champion.

Anabel Ortiz had a good fight against Suri Tapia. Tapia dropped weight after losing to Ibeth "Roca" Zamora and used this opportunity to challenge a strawweight champion.

Anabel is one of the best in her weight class, with great technique and a lot of endurance, so it was not difficult for her to dominate her opponent from start to finish. With waist movement, she achieved a dual function, evading Suri Tapia's punches and entering her guard to hurt her in close quarters when they engaged in an exchange.

However, the fight took place at a medium distance, where the "Wasp" was able to control the actions with good punches, most of them aimed at the challenger's body.

Suri Tapia was brave, but her technique was not good enough to defeat Ortiz. She tried to engage in exchanges and fight on the counterattack, but it was all in vain. However, she showed her endurance and physical fitness.

On the other hand, Jorge "Maromerito" Páez seems to have fallen into a hole that is stalling his path towards whatever he wants to achieve. In some previous fights, he seemed like a serious title contender until he fell to Vivian Harris, an opponent chosen 10 days before the fight. Then (although not immediately after), he was knocked out by José Benavidez and seems to have not overcome it.

"Maromerito" looked slow and without an idea or battle plan

It has not been unusual to see "Maromerito" without a trained physique, but at least he used to have an idea of what he was doing in the ring. Against Chema Ocampo, he looked clueless about the battle. Like a boxer who knows how to fight but did not put in the work, the training camp. That seems to be the case, although there is no way to know specifically what happened.

On the contrary, Ocampo came prepared with physical fitness, combinations, power, and a lot of heart. He took control of the ring and put pressure on the "Maromerito" with his movement and attack, always focused forward, not allowing his opponent to escape his punching range and being careful not to fall into his game.

He had a dynamic fight even though at one point Páez stalled the fight by being unassertive and provoking clinches.

Finally, Ocampo took the victory and a big question arises, should Páez continue in boxing?
