Tre Mason revealed he did not feel good about the Rams choosing Todd Gurley in the Draft: "I recognize that it shocked me". The rookie in 2014 (765 yards and four touchdowns) will now have to compete with the former University of Georgia running back, despite a very promising end to the season.

Zac Stacy (2013 revelation who floundered in 2014) formally requested a transfer after hearing Gurley's name in the Draft. Mason, on the other hand, in words to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, assured that now he has no choice but to make it difficult for the Rams coaching staff: "In the end, the goal is to win the Super Bowl. It is normal to have only one running back on the field, so to say that there is no competition for the position would be a lie... But I can't think about that. I have been working a lot on my long distance speed. I know I can find gaps and escape, but this year I want to do it even more."

Mason missed the first five games of the regular season due to technical decision. The reason? His poor protection of the quarterback. Something that, fortunately, improved... Blocking remains one of the weak spots for the runner. But the good news for him is that, like almost every rookie runner, Gurley also has a lot of room for improvement in that aspect.

Gurley, the most promising running back in the future rookie class, was chosen by Saint Louis with the tenth pick. The decision surprised Saint Louis, as most of the fans saw it as more urgent to reinforce other positions. But after the Draft, it became clear that the Rams were only thinking about improving their running game: they drafted a runner (Gurley) and four offensive linemen [Rob Havenstein (OT), Jamon Brown (OT), Andrew Donnal (OT), and Cody Wichmann (G)].
