Although several other names have been placed in the frame, including Jan Oblak, Jasper Cillessen and Iker Casillas, reports in France suggest Manchester United are eyeing up Hugo Lloris as a replacement for David de Gea, who is expected to swap Old Trafford for the Bernabéu this summer.
Lloris renewed his contract with Tottenham last season until 2019 but he secured the word of Daniel Levy that if an offer of 25 million euros came in from one of Europe’s elite clubs, he would be allowed to leave. And that offer has arrived, according to L’Equipe.
It’s not the first time the 28-year-old France captain has been linked with Old Trafford, but the imminent departure of De Gea could accelerate United’s pursuit of the keeper, L’Equipe stated. Lloris has become a priority signing while Ajax are playing hardball over the signing of Cillessen, who is Louis van Gaal’s primary target to fill the sticks.
L’Equipe believes that the De Gea deal will be sealed this week and that then United’s efforts to sign Lloris will swing into action. The keeper meanwhile has to wait and see if Levy will keep his promise.
