SEOUL - Benson Henderson defeats Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision (47-48, 48-47, 49-46) in a welterweight (170 pounds) bout at UFC Fight Night in Seoul, South Korea.
Round 1
Henderson is the first to land a combination of punches and kicks. Masvidal is more cautious in his attack, while Benson is dangerous with the speed of his left hand. Jorge begins to close the distance and put pressure on his opponent.
Powerful right hand from Henderson sends Masvidal to the ground, who was off-balance, but he quickly gets back up and continues in the fight. Jorge throws powerful punches and kicks at Henderson.
Round 2
Masvidal pressures Henderson with kicks and gets a takedown to search for the back, however, Benson gets back up. Jorge attacks with quick and powerful punches. Henderson backs up and waits for Masvidal's attack to counter it.
The Cuban tries to get a choke, but Benson defends and lands knees to the legs and body of his opponent to hurt him in the final seconds of the round.
Round 3
Front kick from Henderson, Masvidal looks tired and retreats in his attack. Benson takes Jorge against the cage and looks for the takedown, while punishing with elbows to the face of his opponent. Masvidal takes down Henderson and tries to close the Guillotine Choke but is not successful.
Masvidal continues to pressure and advances on Benson to use his boxing, however, Henderson maintains good defense.
Round 4
Henderson looks faster than Masvidal and lands combinations; the Cuban defends and takes his opponent against the cage.
They return to the center of the octagon until Benson gets the takedown. They immediately stand up to continue with the exchange. Henderson finishes strong with punches and kicks on Masvidal.
Round 5
Masvidal grabs Henderson's neck and looks for the Guillotine Choke, but Benson gets up and escapes the submission. "Smooth" pressures Jorge and takes him down again.
The last round has been played on the ground with Henderson's attempt to finish with a submission, but Masvidal withstands and gets up.
Benson Henderson: "I want to thank my entire team. It was a great fight. I came out with the victory in a very close fight, so I hope you enjoyed it. Masvidal is a very strong and tough fighter, I thank him for accepting the fight on short notice. This was a win I had to get in front of the Korean fans. I have a lot to improve."
Jorge Masvidal: "I'm not happy with the result, I would have liked to have had more time to prepare. It would have been ideal to have more time to plan things better."
