On November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KO) made his return to the ring after 11 months of inactivity, defeating Filipino Drian Francisco (28-4-1, 22 KO) by unanimous decision.
Rigondeaux said he feels great after returning to boxing and promised that the next time he fights, he will win by knockout.
"I felt great after the fight. He hit hard but his style was nothing for mine. My style was too much for him. It's been 11 months since I've been in the ring so I felt like I had cobwebs in my body but I'd like to see another boxer win after 11 months out of the ring."
"I definitely want to give the fans a better fight so I have to go back to the gym, be more active and fight better. I promise that with the tools and now that I've signed with Roc Nation, the next time I will be explosive." I want to thank my team for helping me achieve this victory.
"But right now I'm going to promise that no matter who I'm facing, I'm going to knock them out. I'm going to knock their head off their neck."
The boxer known as "El Chacal" (The Jackal) used his typical boxing style which is to win by points and not risk receiving a good blow. Let's just hope that for his next fight he fulfills his promise to become more explosive.
CompuBox's calculations are clear evidence of why the fight was boring. Rigondeaux landed 72 punches throughout the fight while Francisco only landed 42.
The Filipino also talked about the fight. He said he was upset with how "El Chacal" fought.
"Rigondeaux is not a boxer, he is a runner. He's afraid of getting hurt and doesn't want to fight. I felt pressured to be the aggressor during the fight because he wasn't fighting, Rigondeaux was running. He has no power and fights to win by points. I trained very hard for this fight and I feel like it was a waste of time because there was no fight, I didn't face any boxer."
