Boxing match between Rigondeaux and Briones
The Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KO) will face the Mexican boxer Mario Briones (26-4-2, 19 KO) at the EY Center in Ottawa, Canada. This was announced by Boris Arencibia, president of the promoter Caribe Promotions (Rigondeaux Promoter).
"We have been going through difficult times, but we will gradually recover what they took from 'Rigo'. For now, he will return to the ring on December 4 in Canada and will face Mario Briones, and the CMB Latino Super Bantamweight title will be at stake."
Apparently, winning the championship will not be the only reward for the winner of the fight. The winner will face the Mexican Rey Vargas (25-0, 20 KO) in a playoff to challenge Julio Ceja.
"'Rigo' will first conquer the Latino title. Then in 2016, we will fight in the playoff and move forward until he becomes champion again. We have gone through tests that will surely demotivate others."
Rigondeaux was the WBO World Champion of that division. But he was stripped of the title because he has been inactive for a long time and it has been very difficult for him to find an opponent.

His last fight was on December 31, 2014 when he defended his title by technical knockout in the eleventh round against the Japanese Hisashi Amagasa.

"Rigondeaux is a fantastic boxer, a boxer who has earned respect and with great sacrifice was able to reach a privileged position. He beat Nonito Donaire in a very dramatic way, but then his career froze for reasons that are still unexplained.
"Currently, he doesn't have any commitments or anything like that, so we invite him to be part of a playoff. Previously, he was a champion in other organizations, and at that time we had no alternative. We qualify him to be part of a final playoff.
"He and his team expressed to me with pride and respect that he has the dream of being a champion of the green and gold. It is an excellent opportunity to show that the WBC has its doors open for any boxer. I wish him a lot of luck and we want to see him with the WBC Championship.
Finally, justice was done with Rigondeaux since, not being able to find opportunities or opponents, the WBC gave him the opportunity he deserves. Other opponents simply say that his boxing style is boring. Is it boring or are they afraid of him? We just have to see how he performs on December 4.
