Las Palmas fans celebrate promotion to First Division

Thousands of UD Las Palmas fans have been celebrating since this afternoon the promotion of the yellow team to First Division, achieved at the Estadio de Gran Canaria after winning 2-0 against Real Zaragoza in the second leg of the final play-off (3-1 on aggregate).

Since the referee from La Rioja, Daniel Ocón Arráiz, blew the final whistle at 19:50 - local time - the yellow supporters have taken to the streets of the capital of Gran Canaria to celebrate the return of their team to the elite of Spanish football, from which they had been absent for 13 years.

Cars are honking their horns and fireworks can be heard in every corner of the city, a celebration that started at the venue of the match, where more than 28,000 spectators witnessed the sixth promotion to First Division for Unión Deportiva, just two months before celebrating 66 years of history.
