The first fight of the main card of UFC 242 was between Russian Mairbek Taisumov and Brazilian Carlos Diego Ferreira, where the latter was the winner by unanimous decision. This is his fifth consecutive victory (he hasn't lost since January 2016).
"First, I want to thank God and my whole team, and also all the people in Abu Dhabi. I trained a lot for this fight. I felt very good in this octagon and I'm very happy for the victory," said Ferreira after his triumph.
Meanwhile, in the main event, the current lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who has held the belt for over 500 days, will seek to expand his current record of 27-0 (8 by KO) against Dustin Poirier, who has won five consecutive battles and wants to take the crown.
The fight between Khabib and Poirier is an extension of the classic rivalry between Russia and the United States where there are no significant indications of favoritism for either. Nurmagomedov has 27 wins, three more than his rival, and no losses, while the American has been defeated 5 times.
