Argentina coach expresses concern over team's lack of efficiency

The coach of the Argentine National Team, Gerardo Martino, expressed his dissatisfaction because the team failed to convert some of the opportunities they created, and ended up suffering to close the game.

"I believe that we lack effectiveness, something difficult to think or predict when we have players with the goal scoring ability that we have. Not being able to ensure the result makes us uneasy," Martino said in the press conference after the match for Group B of the Copa America in Chile.

The Argentine coach also highlighted the "physical decline" he observed in the players in the second halves of the three matches corresponding to the tournament's group stage: Paraguay, Uruguay, and Jamaica.

"I felt that we played the first half today correctly, we scored quickly and we had four or five chances to extend the lead. The second half was too boring and ball circulation was not fast enough to cause damage. I feel that there is a decline from a physical standpoint in the second halves," he expressed.

Looking ahead to the quarterfinals, Martino opined that if the team repeats a performance like they had in the second half against Jamaica, they will be "in trouble," but if they perform like they did in most of the first two matches, their options "will increase."

"The six rest days we will have until the quarterfinals are very good for us. The first two matches have been very intense and that has a great impact on performance," he explained.
