Peruvians José María Lucar and Leodan Pezo qualified for the boxing semifinals at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Both boxers have already secured at least a bronze medal, but they are not satisfied and want more. Our compatriots want to give Peru the gold medal.
In the Pan American Games, there is no fight to determine the bronze medal. Therefore, the two boxers who do not qualify for the final automatically move up to the third step of the podium.
José María Lucar defeated Mexican Francisco Cantabrana by unanimous decision in the heavyweight category (91 kg). His next opponent is Ecuadorian Julio Castillo Torres.
Meanwhile, Leodan Pezo won by points against Panamanian Orlando Martínez in the lightweight category (69 kg). The Peruvian will return to the ring on Tuesday, July 30th, when he faces Cuban Lázaro Alvarez.
The competitions are taking place at the Coliseo Miguel Grau in Callao. This Monday, starting at 2:00 pm, we have four boxers stepping into the ring.
William Peña will be the first to fight against Damian Arce in the Light Flyweight category (46-49 kg).
Miguel Germán Acosta will fight against Conrad Ryan from Antigua and Barbuda in the Light Welterweight category (64 kg).
Esperanza Miñope will fight against Beatriz Soares from Brazil in the Lightweight category (57-60 kg).
Jorvi Farroñan will face Duke Ragan from the USA in the Bantamweight category (56 kg).
Boxing at the Pan American Games is fought in three intense rounds in the 10 weight divisions for men and the 5 for women. The first stage is the quarterfinals, which will take place from July 27th to 29th. Then, the semifinals will be on July 30th, while the finals for the gold medals will be determined on August 1st and 2nd.
