The great prospect of Mexican and Latin American boxing Iván 'Sonrics' Ramírez was found dead at his home in Mérida

Ramírez, who turned 24 on May 17th, was found hanged. Relatives found him and reported to the authorities, who intervened in the property to conduct investigations.

The boxer had been spending time with acquaintances on Wednesday who did not detect any abnormalities in his mood and knew that he was going to begin the intense part of his training for an upcoming fight in Suriname.

'Sonrics', who had a record of 14 wins, with six knockouts, and one loss, possessed an aggressive and lively boxing style, which had already generated a lot of sympathy and admiration from fans in southern Mexico.

A few months ago, the World Boxing Council (WBC) ranked him and it was expected that he would advance in that ranking with the aim of fighting for the universal light flyweight championship.

His last fight was on March 15th at the Polifuncional Gymnasium in Mérida, where he exhibited power and boxing talent and won by a wide decision against Yucatecan boxer Ulises 'Condorito' Martín in his debut in 10-round fights.

Just last December, Ramírez had his first international fight in Suriname, where he won by unanimous decision in six rounds against Venezuelan Nohel Arambulet. (EFE)
