Daniela Macías and Danica Nishimura continue to achieve success abroad. This time they did it at the Benin International 2019, where they won the gold medal in the women's doubles category. In addition, Macías was able to take home the silver medal in singles.
The 'Danis' defeated Nigerian players Tosin Atalagbe and Amin Christoher by 2-0 (21-5, 21-4) in the quarterfinals. Then, in the semifinals, they beat Iranian players Samin Abedkhojasteh and Soraya Aghaeihajiagha by 2-0 (21-7, 21-18). In the final, they were able to defeat Egyptian players Doha Hany and Hadia Hosny by 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 21-12).
Meanwhile, in the individual category, Daniela Macías, the Peruvian number one racket, had to overcome the local player Xena Arisa by 2-0 (21-8, 1-6) in the first round. Then, she defeated Nigerian players Amin Christopher and Tosin Atolagbe, as well as Iranian player Soraya Aghaeihajiagha. However, in the final, she lost to the representative of Burma, Thet Htar Thuzar, by 2-1 (17-21, 21-18, 21-14).
The next step for the two Peruvian badminton players is the Côte d'Ivoire International 2019, which starts on Thursday, July 4th. Both Daniela and Danica will be participating in Lima 2019, and with these tournaments they aim to earn points to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
