Albert "Chapi" Ferrer was confirmed today as new coach of second division side, RCD Mallorca and takes over from Miquel "Nanu" Soler. He will form a key part in the 2015-16 season as the club celebrates their centenary year with a push to return to the top flight of Spanish football.
Ferrer (born in Barcelona in 1970) took Córdoba back to La Liga for the first time in over 40 years as well as playing for Barcelona and Chelsea as his time as a player.
The Mallorca board confirmed that they would not speculate on new signings and departures at the island based club until a new coach was in place. Since relegation from the top flight in 2013-2014, after 15 consecutive years in the top flight, the board have managed to sack 6 coaches in just 16 months.
The latest casualty, Soler, reached an agreement with club president, Claassen on June 8th.
Before him, and since February 2015, José Luis Oltra, Lluís Carreras, Javier Olaizola (current ‘B’ team coach), Soler (who was in charge for one month in August 2014), Russian, Valery Karpin and since February 2015, Soler again.
