Michael Bisping's Retirement from UFC
Twelve years ago, Michael Bisping decided to join UFC. Little did he know that he would make history in the company, as he became the fighter with the most victories in history. However, they were not without cost as the former middleweight champion has decided to step aside.
At 39 years old, Michael Bisping revealed that his health is at risk. An eye injury threatens to leave him blind, which is why he has decided to retire after nearly fifteen years of his career.
"Last night I was watching a movie - Journeyman - and I realized that (returning to fight) is not worth it. It's not worth it. What else am I going to do? I have won the belt, I have achieved tons of victories, I have accomplished everything I set out to achieve. What's the point of continuing to try something impossible?" said the Englishman on the podcast Believe You Me.
After two consecutive defeats against Georges St-Pierre and Kelvin Gastelum, 'The Count' revealed that he is experiencing complications in his left eye (seeing flashes of light) and that these complications have persisted in recent months. Doctors have diagnosed him with a detached vitreous in his left eye, a condition that puts him at greater risk of losing his retina.
Thus, Michael Bisping says goodbye to UFC with a personal record of 30–9. In addition, he holds the record for the most victories in the company, along with Georges St-Pierre and Donald Cerrone, with 20 wins.
