Super Flyweight Khalid Yafai Looks to Unify Division

The undefeated British super flyweight Khalid Yafai, who holds the WBA title at 115 pounds, says he is looking to unify and/or fight against the big names in the division, or at least that's what he says, but that doesn't mean he is looking past his next fight.

Yafai (23-0, 14 KO) will face David Carmona (21-5-5, 9 KO) on Saturday in Fresno, California, on the undercard of Jerwin Ancajas-Jonas Sultan.

"A unification could be next, but all I'm thinking about is this fight, looking good and getting the victory. Then, afterwards, we will sit down with the team and see what's next.

"I will fight anyone and I want to establish myself as the man in the division. When they offer me any of these guys (champions), I'll be more than ready and happy to take them out, one after another." Via Badlefthook.com

Yafai's statements sound very spectacular, however his last fights have been against weakened bantamweights to make super flyweight, like Carmona, Ishida, and Murakana, ranked between 35 and 25 worldwide. He has avoided ranked opponents like Miguel "Needle" Gonzales, Roman Gonzales, and Iran Diaz. Yafai has been talking for a long time about wanting to fight Ancajas or Rungvisai. However, we only see a long parade of Japanese bantamweights and a complete bypass of his ranked opponents in the WBA. On Saturday, we will see Yafai in one of his classic arranged defenses.
