Each year on the Wednesday before the start of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, caddies compete in a closest-to-the-hole competition at the famous 17th hole. Players in the field drop money into a collection box, and as ESPN’s Michael Collins explains, the winner takes all and gets a coveted parking spot close to the clubhouse.
Tiger Woods dropped a $100 bill into the box before his caddie, Joe LaCava, took a 137-yard shot to the the green.
LaCava wasn’t close, and Woods playfully ribbed him after the failed attempt.
“137? That’s a nine-iron for Joey. Oh he’s fine, he’ll hold that little cut up in there.”
“Oh crap. Oh man, cost me a benji…. He had the pull, no power.”
Better luck next year, Joe.
