After defeating Big Cass at Backlash, Daniel Bryan faced a harsh reality. When he thought he was going to enter the Money in the Bank match, the former general manager of WWE SmackDown ended up losing to Rusev in the main event of the show in Baltimore.

Daniel Bryan, fueled by the support of the crowd, stepped into the SmackDown ring confident after his victory against Big Cass. However, Rusev proved to be more aggressive and the former WWE champion suffered his first individual defeat since returning to the ring.

When Daniel Bryan tried to hit him with his knee strike, Rusev dodged it and delivered a kick to the head. After that blow to one of his most sensitive areas, the "bearded" one had no reaction to the referee's count of three.

Thus, Rusev became the fourth confirmed participant for Money in the Bank, the second from SmackDown. This happened after The Miz defeated Jeff Hardy at the beginning of the WWE show.

Meanwhile, Daniel Bryan, with an unexpected defeat, remained meditating in the ring, as he missed out on an opportunity to compete for the Money in the Bank briefcase.
