English Boxer Carl Frampton Crowned Interim WBO Champion

English boxer Carl Frampton was not willing to give up a single round as he knew what was at stake, and without showing any respect for a four-time world champion, he was crowned the new interim champion of the World Boxing Organization after defeating Nonito Donaire in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Jackal Frampton, who is now the mandatory challenger for Mexican boxer Óscar Valdez's featherweight title, entered the ring with a clear strategy and although he faced a Donaire who threw powerful uppers to counter, he found a way to dominate and overcome an experienced fighter.

At the start of the bell, Frampton took the first three minutes to analyze the 35-year-old fighter who in the past defeated names like Vic Darchinyan, Jorge Travieso Arce, Toshiaki Nishioka, Andrés Narvaez, and Fernando Kochulito Montiel.

In the second round, using straight punches to the face, Frampton managed to find a way to push the Filipino back, who by the end of the round already showed signs of the Englishman's work with a swollen cheekbone.

Knowing he was losing ground, Donaire started using footwork and waist movement to make his opponent's punches miss, but the way Carl threw his body and pushed him against the ropes reduced his chances.

In the seventh round, Frampton had complete control, so Donaire's counterattack consisted of combinations where uppercuts shone and caused problems for the local fighter, who managed to stay on his feet.

In the penultimate round, the Filipino sought a knockout that could save his fate, but the strength and determination of the local fighter made him fail, resulting in his fifth professional defeat, which puts him on the verge of retirement.

On the other hand, the English boxer positioned himself to once again fight for a world title after losing the championship last year at the hands of Mexican boxer Leo Santa Cruz. Frampton now has a record of 25-1 with 14 knockouts.
