Jordan Zimmermann has been playing in the United States baseball league for almost ten years and never had an injury like the one last Wednesday. The player had to be assisted when he was hit in the face by a baseball.
The 31-year-old athlete received the impact on the right side of his jaw. It was caused by a line drive hit by his opponent, Jason Kipnis, star of the Cleveland Indians.
The ball hit his face at 170 km/h. That's why Zimmermann fell on the mound and remained motionless for a few minutes, while receiving attention from Doug Teter, head of the Tigers' team of kinesiologists.
As seen in the YouTube video, Zimmermann stood up and talked to Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire. Then, he left the field while pressing a towel against his face.
The Tigers reported that Zimmermann passed the concussion tests and was taken to an X-ray room. So a serious injury was ruled out.
