The next weekend at the announced WrestleMania event, AJ Styles has a difficult task to do, as he will have to defend the WWE Championship against the winner of the 2018 Royal Rumble, Shinsuke Nakamura. Without a doubt, given their previous encounter outside of WWE, both could give one of the best matches of the year.
Recently, "The Phenomenal" talked about the topic in an interview with In This Corner. Here are his statements:
"Well, I think it's definitely going to be an exciting match. It's one of those fights where you have two guys who do a good job together. We have only fought each other once. And that's why it's so exciting; we haven't slowed down, and it's just going to be two guys fighting and doing cool things."
"We definitely are different. Who can compare to Shinsuke Nakamura? He's different from everyone, but few know that he can knock you out with a kick. He's truly a Superstar. He's passionate about our business. We are very different, and I think that's a good thing. Opposites attract, it's the same in the ring. It's going to be exciting."
About whether he had ever thought they would face each other at WrestleMania:
"I think it was some time ago when I thought it was a possibility. It was talked about with people who have the ability to listen and make things happen. I didn't know, the opportunity was there, I just thought that even though some didn't pay much attention to it, the WWE Universe will be watching. But I feel that everyone would like to see it again, so I feel it's a great opportunity to attract more followers and at the same time put together an incredible fight."
About his previous fight in NJPW:
"I think it was a great fight for being the first time we faced each other. I think that's all most fans expected in Japan. It was great, and I think we can do even better than that. We can go all out, I truly believe it. Once we get in the ring, things like 'Oh! I had never seen them do that before' will start happening. It's those little details that we want to give them, I just hope we reach something good."
