We can't help but smile at the initials GTi, and if they return to a model that already sported them at some point, like the Peugeot 308, even better. The French brand revives the most powerful version of the compact and, to satisfy all its customers, offers it with two options.
Although both will be 308 GTi, there is a small one and a big one. And talking about 'small' is something very relative, if we take into account that it mounts a 1.6 THP S&S turbo gasoline engine that develops 250 horsepower and a maximum torque of 330 Nm. The larger one uses the same block, but raises its horsepower to 270. Both variants are associated with a manual gearbox, but the 270 also adds a Torsen limited-slip differential. Their times in the 0-100 are 6.2 and six seconds respectively, with their maximum speed limited to 250 km/h in both cases.
But it's not just about the engine, the GTi also differs from the regular 308s in the lowered body height (11 mm), in the wider tracks (1,570 mm at the front and 1,554 mm at the rear), in the presence of lightweight alloy wheels (18 inches in the 250 and 19 inches in the 270) and in the 380 mm front brake discs bitten by four-piston calipers.
All this mechanical aggressiveness is manifested in the aesthetic aspect, but in a very subtle way if we consider the type of car we are talking about. Only a few details (in addition to the GTi logo, obviously) show that we are not dealing with just any 308: the black grille with checkered design, the twin exhausts, the black diffuser, or the Full LED headlights. In the more powerful version, a more eye-catching option can be chosen, a two-tone paint that leaves the front in Ultimate Red and the rear in Nera Black.
The interior is offered with a mix of leather and Alcantara upholstery, with black as the predominant color and red stitching, and there are also aluminum accents on the steering wheel, gear lever, and pedals.
