On March 12th, WWE announced a women's battle royal for WrestleMania in memory of The Fabulous Moolah, serving as the counterpart to the traditional Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

However, there were negative reactions from fans and journalists, and a petition on Change.org pressured Snickers to demand a name change from WWE. The battle royal was renamed the WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal, although it is still being advertised as the "first-ever women's battle royal at WrestleMania."

But WWE wants to present something as a "first" again, even though it has already been done before. There was a women's battle royal that took place at the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania in the NRG (Reliant) Stadium, where 25 Divas entered the ring accompanied by the music of the upcoming WWE Hall of Famer, Kid Rock. The objective was to eliminate opponents by throwing them out of the ring over the top rope.

Lamentably, this battle royal, which should have been historic, is remembered for how WWE ridiculed the 24 women who entered the ring. The winner was Santino Marella, who defeated important champions of the company such as Maryse and Melina, as well as veterans like Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, and Victoria.

At least I am grateful that we are no longer in the times when "female wrestlers" were categorized solely by their looks and bodies, regardless of their knowledge of professional wrestling.
