Peru's Paolo Guerrero talks about the victory against Venezuela
The forward Paolo Guerrero stated after the 1-0 victory against Venezuela that the Peru national team will face "a very tough match" on Sunday against Colombia, where they will "play for their lives" to secure their spot in the quarterfinals of the Copa America.
Guerrero's statement
Guerrero considered that the Peruvian team sought victory from the start of the match, but their aspirations were complicated by the defensive approach of the Venezuelan team, whose players "were very compact at the back and hardly left any spaces."
The Venezuelan national team focused on defending after their left-back Fernando Amorebieta was sent off in the 30th minute of the game.
Guerrero acknowledged that Peru did not create many opportunities despite playing with a numerical advantage for most of the match, but he highlighted that his team "took advantage of the only opportunity they had" to score the winning goal, which was scored by Claudio Pizarro in the 72nd minute.
