Peru 1x1: Pizarro, Guerrero, and Cueva, the key men

Copa América: With a good performance by Guerrero and a goal by Pizarro, Peru defeats Venezuela.

Copa América: With a good performance by Guerrero and a goal by Pizarro, Peru defeats Venezuela.

Pedro Gallese

He only had work at the start of the match. In the most demanding play (shot by Alejandro Guerra in the third minute of the first half) he responded well. In the second half he was just a spectator.

Luis Advíncula

One of the standout players for Peru. Constantly attacking from the right side. Sent numerous crosses into the box for Pizarro and Guerrero. Created offensive volume in the second half.

Carlos Ascues

Showed insecurity at the start of the game, but gained confidence as the minutes passed. Controlled Salomón Rondón well both in the air and on the ground. Had a good game.

Carlos Zambrano

Also started with doubts and improved as the game went on. In the second half, he made good tackles and didn't let Rondón breathe. Always came out from the back with class and controlled the ball.

Juan Vargas:

Played as a left back and seemed confused in the first half. Improved in the second half and had space to attack down his side. Linked up well with Cueva in the attack, creating several chances.

Joel Sánchez:

Very active throughout the game. In the first half, played as a right winger and in the second half, with Reina coming on and Lobatón going off, dropped deeper to do defensive work.

Josepmir Ballón:

Had the responsibility of marking, regaining possession, and balancing the midfield. Carried out all three tasks perfectly, especially in the second half where he dominated the midfield.

Carlos Lobatón

Not his best game. In the first half, he seemed disconnected from Sánchez and Cueva, causing a breakdown in Peru's midfield. Sent several balls to Guerrero that weren't well utilized by the striker. Stayed in the dressing room at halftime and was substituted by Reina. Booked in the 36th minute for a foul on Rosales.

Christian Cueva:

Better in the second half than in the first. Became a headache for the Venezuelan defense down the left side. Started the play that led to Pizarro's winning goal. One of the best players in the game. Substituted in the 83rd minute by Hurtado.

Claudio Pizarro

In the first half, played as a striker and took away Guerrero's prominence, who had to move to the sides to receive the ball. In the second half, played as an attacking midfielder which benefited him and his team. Scored the 1-0 goal in the 71st minute and celebrated his 20th goal with the Peruvian national team. Replaced by Yotún in the 89th minute.

Paolo Guerrero

Didn't score, but performed an important tactical role. Moved to the right, moved to the left, and roamed the entire attacking front. Was a partner to everyone in the attacking third. The downside is that he received a yellow card and, due to a second yellow, will miss the game on Sunday against Colombia.

CAMBIOS

Yordi Reyna:

Played the entire second half (replaced Lobatón in the 46th minute). Followed Gareca's instructions to the letter: opened up the field, created imbalance, and moved behind the opposing defenders. Started on the right and also featured on the left.

Paolo Hurtado:

Entered the field in the 83rd minute for Christian Cueva.

Yoshimar Yotún:

Entered in the 89th minute for Claudio Pizarro.
