The main event of Fastlane ended after an incredible brawl between Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, John Cena, and AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. While the Phenomenal One was able to take advantage of a mistake to finish off Owens and secure the victory, this was not the only highlight of the match as several rivalries have begun.
SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon appeared to watch the match as closely as possible. However, this made Owens and Zayn uncomfortable, as they already had a grudge with him from last year.
The match began with Cena and an Attitude Adjustment festival for all the competitors except Styles, who avoided the move and started counterattacking his rival. As the match went on, the contenders each had moments of dominance.
But when it was the Canadians' turn, McMahon prevented them from winning, as Owens accidentally hit the Commissioner with a superkick, and McMahon decided to interfere. However, Zayn was not spared, as while Owens and McMahon argued, he hit his former best friend with a Helluva Kick, but Shane O'Mac also prevented him from winning the title.
Cena came close to winning the gold when he finished off Corbin and Ziggler. However, Owens took advantage to attack Cena, and before he could make the pin, Styles finished him off. Thus, he retained the title and secured his place at WrestleMania against Shinsuke Nakamura.
The final scene of Fastlane showed a saddened Cena wondering how he will make it to the Show of Shows.
