The fight between Mexican Óscar Valdez and British Scott Quigg would take place tonight in Carson, California.
Since last night, the teams negotiated the fight after the European failed to make the weight (126 pounds), he went over by 2.8 pounds, and because he did not want to have a second weigh-in this morning -- set a limit of 126 pounds today--.
Quigg never wanted to step on the scale, and in the end, it is known that Valdez's team reached an economic agreement. In addition to losing 20 percent of his purse, Quigg would have paid another amount to the Mexican, who, if he wins or ties, will continue to hold the WBO Featherweight title, unlike his opponent, who cannot win the title if he raises his arm.
"The fight is on," Top Rank confirmed this afternoon to Grupo REFORMA.
Valdez has wanted the fight since yesterday, saying that it didn't matter to him if his opponent came in heavier, as he is sure of defeating him.
The problem that arose all night was that Valdez's team and officials pointed out that Quigg could have an advantage tonight by weighing more, something that will be seen if it is true or not until the moment they exchange blows.
It must be remembered that in some cases, the fighter who enters the ring heavier in these situations ends up winning, so it could be a risk for Valdez.
We saw that recently in Japan, as Mexican Luis Nery didn't make the weight against Shinsuke Yamanaka and they allowed him to fight after reaching an agreement. On fight day, Nery knocked out the Japanese.
