Everything was ready for the debut of Valentina Shevchenko in the flyweight division (125 pounds) of the UFC. The Peruvian representative had her last face-off with the Brazilian Priscila Cachoeira on Friday, who will be her opponent this Saturday in the main card of the UFC Belem.
After making weight on the scale Friday morning, Valentina Shevchenko and Priscila Cachoeira met in the official weigh-in ceremony in the afternoon, where they had a very respectful face-off.
Valentina Shevchenko decided to move down to the flyweight division after competing in five fights in the bantamweight division (135 pounds), where she achieved three victories and two defeats. In this weight class, the 'Bullet' fought for the belt against the Brazilian Amanda Nunes.
"The flyweight division is my natural weight, here I will feel more comfortable because I will face opponents my size," explained Shevchenko last Thursday, during the final press conference prior to UFC Belem.
PREVIEW:
Valentina Shevchenko will return to the octagon after five months, but in a different division: flyweight. The 'Bullet' will make her debut in her new category against the Brazilian Priscila Cachoeira at UFC Belem. But before the fight, she must make the correct weight in the official event ceremony (5:00 pm).
Already in the official weigh-in, the Peruvian representative made weight (125 pounds), so she will have no problems stepping on the scale. On the other hand, the Brazilian Cachoeira will make her octagon debut in the UFC in front of her people.
If she achieves victory, Valentina Shevchenko could vie for a title in the newly inaugurated flyweight division. This comes after fighting in five bouts in the bantamweight division (135 pounds), even challenging for Amanda Nunes' belt.
In addition, at the official ceremony, Lyoto Machida and Eryk Anders will also go face to face, the two middleweight fighters who will headline UFC Belem. On the other hand, John Dodson will clash against Pedro Munhoz in the co-main event, a fight in the flyweight division.
It should be noted that the Ecuadorian Marlon Vera will be part of the preliminary card. The popular 'Chito' will face Douglas Silva de Andrade.
