Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), said they will consider the possibility of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s face appearing on the belts that the organization awards to the champions, aware of the boxer's legacy.
A few days ago, Mayweather Jr. practically demanded that his face be on the belts of the four most important organizations in the world, something that the head of the WBC would not mind.
"Floyd is a historical, iconic boxer, just like Muhammad Ali is on the belt, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea (to have Mayweather Jr.). There are boxers that represent an era and others that don't (have a particular era), he might be," he said on 'Coffee Tuesdays'.
After Mayweather Jr. returned to the ring last August, when he faced Conor McGregor in Las Vegas, Sulaimán Saldívar expressed that "once he confirms his retirement, something like this could be considered."
He also recalled that four years ago it was decided to put the two greatest fighters in each division on the world belts, in addition to Ali, at the time Floyd was active and not an option, but now there are him and others who are already retired that could be at the level of the greats.
"The WBC is the only organization with fighters on the belt, four years ago we put the best two from each division in the 17 divisions, he didn't apply; if he's retired, he has merit, we'll see, he was a champion in five divisions, he has a lot of merit in several."
Finally, after the possibility of creating a new boxing division, as in the heavyweight category fights are sometimes uneven due to the weight of the contenders, he made it clear that various studies have shown how difficult it would be.
"It is very difficult medically to determine the issue of weight, we have a lot of information, we will analyze it, but I feel that adding one more division will be difficult," he concluded.
