Real Madrid's victory despite absences
In the forced absence of Ronaldo and Benzema, who stayed in Madrid, Benitez fielded a starting eleven with many players who are expected to be key this season, such as Brazilian full-back Danilo, midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, and Isco, in addition to James and Bale, the goal scorers.
James' header seals the victory
It wasn't until after the half-hour mark when Real Madrid opened the scoring: a solo play down the left by Jese and a cross from the forward formed in Real Madrid's youth academy was headed by James from the edge of the six-yard box, beating the defense and the Dutch goalkeeper Michael Vorm, who replaced the injured Hugo Lloris in mid-July.
Real Madrid secures second goal as Bale strikes
As is customary in preseason matches, both coaches took advantage of the second half to give playing time to many players, resulting in a decrease in the pace of the game.
With the lead on the scoreboard, Real Madrid ceded possession to the opponent in search of a counter-attack.
That's how the second goal for Real Madrid came about. The English defense lost the ball at the halfway line, Bale recovered it and advanced until, just before reaching the edge of the penalty area, he took a powerful left-footed shot that surprised Vorm.
Real Madrid continues its preseason preparation
Real Madrid is preparing for the upcoming season, which will officially start on Sunday, August 23, with the first match of La Liga against Sporting Gijon.
