Mexican fighter ‘Teco’ Quiñonez to face Japanese Teruto Ishihara at UFC 221

The Mexican José Alberto 'Teco' Quiñonez will be looking for his fourth victory within the UFC when he faces off against Japanese Teruto Ishihara on February 11th in Perth, Australia.

On the same card, New Zealander Roberth Whittaker will defend the middleweight title against Luke Rockhold, after Canadian Georges St. Pierre vacated the belt he took from Michael Bisping last November.

For Mexican Quiñonez, from Entram Gym in Tijuana, this will only be his fourth appearance inside the octagon, where he made his debut in November 2014 in the final of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America against the show's first champion, Alejandro Pérez.

His opponent, Ishihara, trains at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California and will be making his first cut to 135 pounds within the promotion. He already has experience against Mexican fighters, as he defeated Horacio Gutiérrez from Guadalajara last year in Salt Lake City.

'Teco' is one of the most recognized fighters by Mexican fans of mixed martial arts and is currently on a three-fight winning streak; most recently defeating Chilean Diego Rivas in August. Previously, he had overcome American Joey Gómez and Nicaraguan Leonardo 'Chimmy' Morales.
