Keylor Navas will play no part in next month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup with Costa Rica, national team coach Paulo César Wanchope confirmed on Wednesday. “Keylor won’t be with us for the tournament”, he explained.
The worst news came after Wanchope received the medical report on the goalkeeper, who is suffering tendinitis to his Achilles heel. “I think he has two options,” Wanchope continued, “undergo a course of treatment, or surgery”.
Keylor Navas¡ absence is a massive blow to Costa Rica ahead of next month’s tournament in Canada and the United States. “It’s a shame; Keylor will now ned to travle back to Spain so that he can be examined by Real Madrid’s medical team; they will decide what treatment he needs”.
The injury to Keylor Navas could affect Madrid’s plans for the goalkeeper’s position. With speculation that Iker Casillas could be moving on, any such departure would be put on hold if the Costa Rican requires surgery and is out of action for a lengthy period.
