Javier Gómez Noya wins Rio de Janeiro Olympic test event
Javier Gómez Noya has emerged victorious in the pre-Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro, on the same course that will host next year's Games. The race was not part of the World Series, but it had the undeniable appeal of getting firsthand knowledge of the route where the Olympic medals will be played.
The Galician defeated Frenchman Vincent Luis by 14 seconds
and South African Richard Murray by 35 seconds. The other two Spaniards who follow him in the World Series rankings, Mario Mola and Fernando Alarza, finished seventh and eleventh respectively.
Current Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee finishes in tenth place
His brother Jonathan is seriously injured and it will be very unlikely for him to compete this season.
