The Daily Telegraph has compiled a list that now highlights the, in their opinion, 20 most overrated footballers in history. There are opinions to suit all tastes, but one of the players who surprises most to appear in this curious classification is Sergio Ramos.
The Telegraph points out Ramos as "fortunate to have played for Spain at a time when the midfield was so dominant that a defender like him could sit back and enjoy the show." "When Ramos has to defend one-on-one, it is reckless, as evidenced by the 19 red cards he has received in the league, more than any other player," the publication justifies about a center-back with a Champions League and three La Ligas, World and European champion with the National Team.
There’s more. Some have had notorious failures in the Premier League, like Mario Balotelli, Robinho, or Radamel Falcao. The attitude of other great talents is questioned: Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Wayne Rooney. Steven Gerrard is also accused of being "good, but not great." Many football greats stand out in this dishonorable ranking, such as Roberto Baggio. The same goes for Wesley Sneijder, who won everything leading a good Inter Milan side. The Telegraph says he "shone in the 2010 World Cup because it was a tournament of very low quality." Anelka, Malouda, Denilson, the young Wilshere... Are these the 20 most overrated footballers?
