Max Holloway retains his featherweight title in UFC 218

Max Holloway repeated the dish. The fighter born in Hawaii defeated the Brazilian José Aldo for the second time and retained his featherweight title in the UFC 218 event held at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. This victory not only meant Holloway's first successful defense, but also his 12th consecutive win in his career.

He kept the belt

It is important to remember that initially Frankie Edgar was destined to fight Max Holloway, but he dropped out of the fight when there were just two weeks left, so José Aldo was chosen by the UFC to replace 'The Answer' and face the champion for the second time and seek revenge, after what happened in June of this year at UFC 212, in which Holloway won and unified the featherweight titles.

The fight was interesting from the beginning with Max Holloway proposing and a José Aldo more cautious than in the first fight. In the first round, the champion made a difference and made his strategy clear by wearing down 'Scarface', who could not connect effectively, and connecting precise blows that ended up swelling the face of his rival.

In the second round, José Aldo tried to equalize the fight, finding the distance and connecting with jabs to Max Holloway, showed good head movement to avoid punches and pulled out his feared 'low kick' with which he started to damage Holloway's right leg, who despite the punishment ended the second round in good shape.

The third round was decisive for José Aldo, so he came out a little more aggressive, but the physical wear and tear caused by Max Holloway in the first two rounds didn't let him propose what he wanted, so 'Blessed' started to grow in confidence and dominated the octagon at will. Despite the fatigue, Aldo endured punishment for almost a minute until he succumbed to the champion's power at 4:51.

With this, Max Holloway came out well from his first belt defense and waits for his reign to extend for a long time or until someone appears who can challenge him.
