Feliciano López defeated in semifinals of Gstaad tournament

The Spanish tennis player Feliciano López has been defeated (6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3) in the semifinals of the Gstaad tournament (Switzerland), ATP-ranking event played on clay, against the Austrian Dominic Thiem, who will face the Belgian David Goffin in the final for the title.

'Feli', who was the second seed of the tournament, was facing Thiem for the third consecutive time, having lost the two previous matches played between them. The first one, in the third round of last year's US Open, while this year, the player from Toledo was also defeated in the second round of the Miami tournament against the Austrian.

With these precedents, the world number 24 came out very confident onto the Swiss Open Gstaad court, easily winning the first set. Thiem took advantage of his opportunities to the fullest and successfully protected his serve. It was a very solid first set for the Austrian, winning 74% of the points with his first serve.

The player from Toledo, ranked 18 in the ATP rankings, did not give up and showed more solidity in the second set of the match, improving his performance. It was a closely contested second set, in which both players held their serve at all costs, so the set was decided in the tiebreak, which 'Feli' won in a tight 'tie-break' to equalize the match.

However, in the third set, Thiem went all out and left no chances for Feliciano López, who will have to wait again to reach the final of Gstaad, a round he has not reached in this tournament since 2006.

After the victory, the Austrian player, 21 years old, qualified for his third final of the year, where he will face the Belgian David Goffin, who won the other semifinal against the Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci (6-4, 6-2). Thiem could continue adding titles to his individual record, which he debuted at the end of May this year with the Nice title and a week ago he added his second crown in Umag.
