Traveling is a pleasure, although not for everyone.
According to the rivals they will face on tour, the NFL franchises on the west coast of the United States, San Francisco, San Diego, Oakland, and Seattle are among the top five teams that will accumulate the most mileage next season.
In fact, the 49ers are the ones that will travel the most miles in 2015 with 27,912 miles.
Much of this total is accumulated by trips across the US, to the east coast, where the majority of the 32 teams in the League are located, which requires good management of human physiology for these four clubs.
Playing on the east coast means for the 49ers, Chargers, Raiders, and Seahawks a challenge due to the trip itself, and even more if the game is scheduled for 1:00 PM local time.
When they play at home, unless it is a nighttime game, these teams play at 1:05 or 1:25 PM Pacific time or west coast time, so playing on the east coast of the US at 1:00 PM local time really means for their bodies to start hitting and playing at a demanding level at 10:00 AM, according to their biological clock.
In that sense, the 49ers, who have had a solidly built team in recent years, have combined that quality with optimal management of their players' physiology when it comes to crossing the country.
In the last two seasons, the 49ers have played four games on the east side at 1:00 PM local time (10:00 AM in San Francisco), two in 2013 and another pair in 2014, and they have won them all.
In general, San Francisco, Chargers, Seahawks, and Raiders have a combined record of 16-16 in games on the other side of the US scheduled at 1:00 PM eastern time.
In 2014, the four teams on the west coast of the US had a record of 6-8 and the previous year of 10-8.
The Seahawks, also with a competitive squad, have a record of 5-3 on the road on the east side of the country in the last two seasons, followed by the Chargers with a record of 5-5.
The Raiders, who have had bad teams for the most part, have not fared well, boasting only two victories in 10 games on the east coast of the US since 2013.
None of these four clubs will be spared in 2015 from traveling to the other side of the US, and the one that will visit that region the most is, ironically, Oakland, with six away games, followed by San Diego and San Francisco with five and Seattle with three games.
