The Benfica is interested in signing Spanish forward Roberto Soldado, who currently plays for English team Tottenham, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

According to the sports newspaper, the current Portuguese league champion considers Soldado a good replacement for Brazilian forward Rodrigo Lima, who was transferred to Al Ahli Dubai this week.

Soldado's arrival would also be an alternative to the signing of Mexican Raúl Jiménez from Atlético Madrid, which Benfica had also shown interest in the past few weeks. However, his possible move to the English league, as speculated by the press, has caused Benfica to change their target and now focus on Soldado, according to O Jogo.

Signing the Valencian forward would be his first foray into Portuguese football after spending the majority of his career in Spain, except for the last two seasons at Tottenham.

Soldado, 30, joined Tottenham in August 2013 for €34 million, becoming the most expensive signing in the history of the Spurs.

He came up through the ranks of Real Madrid and played with the first team in the 2005/2006 and 2007/2008 seasons. Osasuna, Getafe, and Valencia complete the player's trajectory, who is also an international player for the Spanish national team, in which he has played 12 matches and scored 7 goals.
