Rayo Vallecano coach, Paco Jémez spoke frankly voicing his displeasure over the recent signing of Chinese player, Zhang Chengdong. The Rayo coach spoke on late night radio show, El Larguero (Cadena SER) and declared that the deal had motives that were not of a sporting nature. "This is a sticking point and is a deal which is solely and exclusively attributed to the club. I don’t believe that anyone not connected with the club should interfere in sporting matters. This has not gone down well with me. The sporting side and the business side of the club should never mix. The lad isn’t to blame, but it can’t be permitted that the club’s sponsor imposes a player on the club", stated the Rayo Vallecano coach.
Paco also commented on Rayo’s recent trip to China to participate in the QBao Cup, a game against Real Sociedad organized by the Chinese sponsor of both La Liga clubs: "We’re not keen on these events. I understand the club has their marketing obligations but the club is not designed for these trips or events. I’d have preferred to stay in Spain".
When asked about the possibility of a return for Michu to Vallecas "Who wouldn’t want Michu in their team? It’s a tricky deal as there are other clubs interested in the player and there is a financial gap involved, especially for us".
