Michel Platini can be both president of FIFA and UEFA.

He does not want to leave UEFA before the Euro that will take place in his country between June 10th and July 10th, 2016. Villar aspires to replace him in UEFA, but Platini prefers elections.

Platini may preside both FIFA and UEFA at the same time

The Frenchman will not resign from his current position until after the elections to replace Blatter, on February 26, 2016. If he wins, he could combine the presidency of both institutions until after the Euro Cup, which will be held in his country between June 10 and July 10, 2016.

The UEFA statutes only allow the first vice president to assume "the functions of the president in case of prolonged absence". The first vice president of UEFA is Villar, who aspires to occupy the space that Platini would leave vacant. But the Frenchman has another idea. He does not want to hand over UEFA. He prefers there to be elections. But since there are no FIFA elections until the end of February, Platini will not start the process until at least March. That would extend the deadlines until well into June, already with the Euro Cup underway.

Ángel Villar also has to adjust his deadlines. He wants to run for re-election in the Spanish Football Federation, but what he really dreams of is occupying the presidency of UEFA. Against him, the investigation opened by the Swiss Prosecutor's Office and by FIFA's own Ethics Committee for the allocation process of the 2018 World Cup and 2022 Qatar World Cup. Villar is considered a man of Blatter, and therefore of the "old guard". Even so, he will pull strings to try to access the UEFA presidency on an interim basis, if he convinces Platini that it is not good for his image to combine FIFA and UEFA. Platini will not decide before February 26, and he also has a favorite: his good friend Wolfang Niersbach, the president of the German Federation.
