Gladys Tejeda arrived yesterday in Lima after winning the gold in the marathon at the Pan American Games with great fanfare. Today, however, rumors began to emerge about a possible positive result in the anti-doping test conducted after the 42 kilometers in Toronto 2015.

Asked about the issue, Tejeda confirmed that she had been taking medication for some medical complications in her kidneys, but denied having any information about a possible positive anti-doping test.

"Since last year I had some complications [with my health]. In October I got sick and this year I didn't participate in two competitions because I was delicate," she said in an interview with ATV+ channel.

After being asked if the reason she was taking diuretics was a renal complication, Tejeda responded: "That's right. My doctors will provide all the details. I can't give any more information."

Regarding a possible positive result in the anti-doping test conducted at the Pan American Games, Tejeda said, "I am quite surprised by what you're telling me. I am unaware of all this. I have no information. All athletes are tested, not just me, and the Pan American Games have already finished," she declared on Canal N.

Today, the newspaper Todo Sport reported that "the marathon runner tested positive in an anti-doping test conducted after winning the gold medal in the 42km marathon" and that she "took a diuretic on the Mexico-Toronto route to reduce swelling in her legs." "She self-medicated privately, without informing the delegation's doctor. This medicine allows her to urinate more intensely and recover her health," it added.
