In 2015, Caterine Ibargüen is unstoppable. Whether in Paris, Eugene, Oslo, or Toronto. The Colombian dominates the triple jump. This time, with a jump of 14.69, she confirmed her absolute dominance in the Diamond League after winning the stop in Stockholm.
Before traveling to Canada, where she won gold at the Pan American Games, Caterine won all four stops in the Diamond League. In Sweden, she easily surpassed the athlete from Kazakhstan, Olga Rypakova, who achieved a best jump of 14.30.
It was Rypakova who defeated Caterine in the 2012 London Olympics. A victory that gives good feelings for Rio 2016.
Kimberly Williams, from Jamaica, took third place with 14.22. The competition was suspended towards the end due to rain, but Caterine Ibargüen's title is secured. It is her third consecutive Diamond League title.
This is what the Olympic and Pan American medalist said about her great victory in an interview with Win Sports:
The Diamond League title: "I came out to win the event. The weather was not good, but this victory gives me more confidence for the next goal, which is the World Championships."
Anticipated victory: "Yes, but I still have to compete in Brussels. But this Diamond League is mine."
What's next for Caterine: "Now I want to keep winning things for myself, my family, and all of Colombia. There is plenty of Caterine to come."
The Beijing World Championships: "I'm doing well. Thanks to my coaching staff, I feel very happy, and I'm ready to face this challenge. I will continue preparing to be at my best on that day."
The next challenge for the Colombian will be the World Athletics Championships in China, which will take place from August 22 to 30.
