The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the German Thomas Bach, said on Wednesday that the 2016 Olympic Games will leave "a great legacy for the people of Rio de Janeiro," the city that will host "a great sporting event" in Brazil, which was the venue for the last World Cup last year.
"The Olympic Games will leave a great legacy for the people of Rio de Janeiro," Bach stressed at the press conference following the IOC Executive Board meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
During his speech to the media, the German leader highlighted "the great progress" made in the Olympic Village and sports facilities and announced that "public transportation will be ready on time."
Thomas Bach also insisted that the organizing committee "is preparing well" but warned: "There is no time to lose."
The president of the IOC will travel to Rio de Janeiro on August 5 for the celebrations that will take place one year before the start of the Olympic Games. "I have great confidence that we will enjoy a great Games in 2016," he concluded.
