Girona strengthens its forward line with the signing of Jairo Morillas

The Girona has strengthened its forward line and Jairo Morillas has been presented this midday at Montilivi. The striker arrives on loan for the current season from Espanyol and has made it clear what his goal is: "I didn't have the opportunity to play much in La Liga and that's why I see it as a step forward in my career. I want to thank this great club for the welcome and I come with a lot of desire. I want to continue proving many things and I come to fight and score goals, which is what forwards live for. I'm a fighter and I hope to be a starter."

Jairo arrives in Girona with great enthusiasm and revealed that he has been training on his own in Seville because "there was overbooking in the first team of Espanyol and I thought my loan would be closed earlier. But I'm fine and although maybe I'm not 100% fit, I am at 90%." When it comes to defining himself, he didn't hesitate: "I'm a reference forward. I like to drop a little to the wing, but I'm an area player and a goalscorer. I've always been defined by goals and it has gone well for me." What is clear is that Girona has signed a goalscorer and the key reason he wore the red and white jersey today was because "they were interested in me from the very first moment. Also, it was the offer that caught my attention the most because it is a great club and they have had great campaigns. I'm very excited and eager to show things," said Jairo, who will have to compete with Mata and Felipe Sanchón to be a starter. He has references of both but perhaps more of the former because "I faced Mata when he was at Lleida. Both are great strikers and it's great competition that I have, but with my work and enthusiasm, I hope to earn a starting position." In this loan season, he wants to continue growing as a footballer in order to "prove things, score goals, and try to secure a place in La Liga next year. And if I don't succeed, then Girona will keep a good image of me."

Cárcel: "We're not in a bad position. We have a good foundation"

After Jairo's presentation, Quique Cárcel took the opportunity to analyze the Girona squad and commented that "we are not in a hurry to complete the squad. It's clear that I would like to complete it tomorrow, but the timing is not up to me. The key is that both the coach and I are calm because we know what players we want." "We have to take things step by step. There are 25 days left until the start of the league and we're not in a bad position. We have a very clear foundation and now what we're trying to do is complete it and increase the competition. I don't want to sign just for the sake of signing. We are clear about what we want and we hope to have everything done in two weeks," he added. Finally, the Girona sports director made it clear that he is looking for players who can easily adapt to Machín's 3-5-2 formation.
