Volkswagen continues implementing its plug-in hybrid technology in important models of its range
After the launch of the Golf GTE, Volkswagen continues implementing its plug-in hybrid technology in important models of its range and it's now the Passat's turn. Both the sedan and the estate versions will receive this version, although it will not be available in dealerships until 2016.
Similar aesthetic solutions to the compact version
It receives aesthetic solutions similar to those of the compact version that place it in the 'GTE' family: specific grille, blue details, LED daytime running lights in the shape of 'C', 17-inch wheels with specific design... And also inside, where the blue color (which Volkswagen calls its "electric mobility color") is present in the stitching and ambient lighting.
Powertrain system and driving modes
The powertrain system consists of two engines, a 1.4 TSI engine with 156 HP and an electric engine with 115 HP, which offer a combined power of 218 HP and 400 Nm of torque, and they are paired with a 6-speed DSG gearbox. It has a fuel consumption of 1.6 l/100 km (12.2 kWh/100 km) and CO2 emissions of 37 g/km, although it depends on the driving mode used.
There are five driving modes to choose from, and by default, the car starts in fully electric mode. This is the 'e-Mode', with which you can drive at speeds of up to 130 km/h and have a range of 50 km. The 'Hybrid Auto' mode combines both engines to find a balance between performance and economy, achieving a combined range of 1,100 km. The last highlighted mode is the 'GTE', which is more sporty and allows you to fully exploit the car's potential, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 225 km/h.
Equipment
As for the equipment, it comes standard with LED headlights, fatigue detection, collision braking system, automatic city braking assist, rain sensor, cruise control, parking assistant, adaptive electronic suspension, digital instrument cluster, etc.
